Method
- Pour the unflavored gelatin powder into a mixing bowl.
- Add the boiling water gradually, whisking continuously until the gelatin fully dissolves and the mixture is clear.
- Stir in the cold water and add several drops of red food coloring, mixing until the color is vibrant and evenly distributed.
- Pour the flavored gelatin into a separate bowl and microwave briefly if needed to loosen it, then whisk until smooth.
- Combine the flavored gelatin with the unflavored gelatin mixture, stirring thoroughly to blend flavors and colors.
- Lightly spray the silicone brain mold with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Pour the gelatin mixture carefully into the mold, filling all the crevices without overfilling.
- Place the mold on a tray and transfer it to the refrigerator, chilling for at least 4 hours or until fully set and firm.
- Once set, gently flex the silicone mold to loosen the gelatin brain, then carefully invert onto a serving plate.
- Adjust any cracks or imperfections with a small knife or toothpick for a more realistic brain texture.
- Chill the final piece for a short time before serving to ensure it holds its shape, then carve or decorate as desired for extra gory effect.
Notes
Use bright red food coloring for a more gory look. For extra realism, add vein-like details with piping gel or red icing after unmolding.
